About the Role

Frontier Medicines is seeking a highly motivated individual to fill the position of Project Manager / Sr. Project Manager, Drug Discovery to help develop the early project portfolio.  The successful candidate will play a leading role in progressing our oncology projects through discovery and preclinical development.  The position will report to the Director of Program Management and will be located in South San Francisco.  This is an opportunity to join and work in a highly collaborative and energetic team in a startup environment with short communication lines across functions and departments.

Key Responsibilities
  • The project manager role will influence multiple drug discovery projects both internal and external
  • Partner with project team leader, matrixed team members, and external partners to develop detailed research plans, to foster a high performing team, and to monitor team health and operating efficiency
  • Organize and track project metrics, milestones, decision points, and risks
  • Create and maintain integrated project timelines and prepare internal team documents
  • Ensure interdependencies and impacts of all decisions are assessed and communicated to stakeholders in a transparent and timely manner
  • Acts as an integrator within the project team, across the organization, and with external partners to ensure alignment and promote best practices
  • Develop and coordinate resource planning across functions and external partners to ensure adequate resources are applied to the project
  • Advise teams on governance expectations with focus on cross-functional input and rigorous debate
  • Coach project team members and others to drive excellence and accountability
  • B.S. in a life sciences discipline with 8-10 years relevant R&D experience in the biotech or pharmaceutical industry and 1-2 years of experience in a formal research project management role
  • Experience with oncology drug discovery and development essential
  • Breadth of scientific expertise with solid understanding of project strategy and drug discovery and development process to contribute to strategic discussions
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate in a cross-functional matrixed environment
  • Leadership skills including situational leadership and ability to influence without authority
  • Strong communication skills and ability to resolve complex problems and manage difficult stakeholder situations
  • Effectively communicate progress toward milestones, opportunities, and risks to all stakeholders
  • Ability to lead the development of critical path analyses and support scenario planning
  • PMP certification preferred
  • Legally authorized to work in the US
