Dr. Ron Weitzman is a board-certified Medical Oncologist with over 26 years of pharmaceutical and biotechnology drug development experience, including 15 years in senior clinical leadership roles at major pharmaceutical companies and more than a decade as an independent consultant and acting CMO. He specializes in the early clinical development of novel oncology therapeutics, with a proven track record advancing first-in-human trials through later-stage development and regulatory approval across a broad range of solid tumors.
As an independent consultant, Dr. Weitzman served as the principal clinical leader for multiple groundbreaking programs that generated substantial investor value and strategic partnerships, including Halda Therapeutics’ HLD-0915 (first RIPTAC™ “hold-and-kill” therapeutic), where he led clinical strategy end-to-end—authoring the IND, designing the Phase 1 protocol, activating sites, and treating the first patients (contributing to Johnson & Johnson’s $3.05B acquisition)—and Arvinas’ ARV-110 (first PROTAC protein degrader in oncology), where he oversaw IND strategy, authored the Phase 1 protocol, assembled the site network, and treated the first patients (facilitating Arvinas’ $2.4B strategic partnership with Pfizer). He previously served as Chief Medical Officer at Tango Therapeutics, overseeing development of multiple oncology assets including three IND submissions while leading the clinical and clinical operations teams.
Earlier in his career at major pharmaceutical companies, he advanced multiple approved therapeutics, including leading cabozantinib (Cabometyx®) development from Phase 1 through initial approval (with pivotal Phase 3 studies), directing bevacizumab (Avastin®) development in NSCLC and recurrent glioblastoma (supporting accelerated approval), and serving as clinical leader for nilotinib (Tasigna®) through the NDA process.
His expertise spans solid tumors, with deep experience in global regulatory interactions (FDA, EMA, and others) and building high-performing clinical teams. Dr. Weitzman is passionate about translating cutting-edge science into therapies that improve patient outcomes.
